Staff Selection Commission (SSC) Result Processing, Normalization & Merit System
The Staff Selection Commission conducts multi-shift computer-based examinations across the country for recruitment to premier central government ministries and departments. To ensure absolute parity and transparent merit calculation across varying difficulty levels, the Commission deploys an officially gazetted percentile normalization formula, followed by multi-stage cut-off shortlisting and cadre department allocation.
Score Normalization Formula
Calculated using standard deviation and average marks of the top 0.1% candidates across all shifts. Normalization neutralizes paper difficulty variations and establishes fair, unbiased merit rankings.
Minimum Qualifying Standards
Statutory qualifying thresholds: UR: 30%, OBC/EWS: 25%, and SC/ST/PwD: 20%. Sectional cut-offs in Computer Knowledge and Data Entry Speed Tests are mandatory for final shortlisting.
Merit List & Tie-Breaking Rules
Ties resolved sequentially: (1) Higher marks in specific specialized sections, (2) Date of birth with older candidates placed higher, and (3) Alphabetical order of candidate names as per application.
Cadre & Post Allocation
Final selection dossiers are submitted to allocated ministries (Income Tax, MEA, Central Excise, CBI, Railways). Regional offices issue nomination status and formal appointment calls.
